Update 11/4/19
Last week did not go like I wanted it to. I found out that I would not be moving forward with a job that I really wanted, which was hard to hear but I feel like I was still able to build a positive relationship with them and they offered to help me on my search.
Moving past that, one thing that I have really started to notice is how much the job search is related to a successful marketing campaign. Just like so many of today's ads are ignored, the majority of the applications sent the traditional way are ignored as well. People just do not have the time to sort through all the applications. If you really want to be noticed, you need to figure out how to stand out. You need to figure out how you can add value to the lives of your target market (the employer). Instead you just searching for your target market, have them find you. Create a blog, podcast, vlog or whatever to help get your word out. Do not just focus it on you and what you want because people will not care as much. Focus it on how you can help other people and add value to their lives. Figure out what you are good at and relate it to how you can help people.
Here are a few other key lessons that I have learned.
1) The people you surround yourself are important. You need to be around the right people. Stop spending time with people that drain your energy or that do not align with what you want out of your life.
2) Take time to reflect. This one has been huge for me, as when I give myself time to do so I feel like I have more control in my life. You just need to make time for it and stop making excuses for why you cannot find time. It allows you to get really clear on what you want.
3) Break down your goals: The job search and big and daunting. It can be easy to get caught up in where to start and what to do. Do not let that stop you. Break it down into manageable chunks. It is also great to remember that even just 15 minutes can make a huge difference.
4) It is a balance between humility and self-confidence. You cannot doubt yourself and believe that you cannot really get what you want but you also cannot be so confident that you never think you have to prepare or that you know everything. It is a delicate balance.
That's what I have for now.
