Day One (of the blog at least)

"It is not a matter of how many times you get knocked down, but a matter of how many times you get back up." Saying it to someone is one thing and actually living it is a completely different thing. I find this to be true with most of the "motivational" sayings out there. Which makes me think there really should be a law that until you have experienced whatever you want to give advice on, you should have lived through it.

Anyways, on to the actual point of this post. Honestly it was not a good day. Cancelled meetings and having clients go a different direction is never an easy thing to take. Feeling like a majority of the work that you do to build your business or find your next job is depressing to say the least. It is easy to just feel worthless because what you wanted did not occur.

At the end of the day I know that is not true and I believe we all know that is not true. That just because we have a bad day, week, month, year or few years (lets not hope it goes that long) does not mean we are worthless. The problem is that with the constant stream of other people on social media "humbly" telling us how great they are, it seems that if we are not succeeding we are worthless. As hard as it may be to believe, this is not the truth at all. Just because you are failing does not mean you are worthless, there is light at the end of the tunnel, you just need to keep going. Trust me I have met some pretty "successful" people that I would never want to be like.

What did I learn today or what was reinforced?

1) Reach out to good friends, they make a world of difference. After a talk with my friend and mentor David I felt a lot better. It was great to hear that someone I consider a real success has gone through the same crap I have. If you are a leader at an organization, looking to transform your organization, you need to connect with him.

2) Just keep going. Learn from your mistakes but keep going. Do not over think what you are doing.

3) You have to start somewhere. There will always be someone that is smarter, better, richer or whatever than you. Do not let that stop you from taking action. You have what it takes.
